Energy Efficiency

Here at Chesapeake Thermal, we are committed to providing energy efficient products and are a proud ENERGY STAR partner. We have specifically selected a handful of manufacturers that we have found are also committed to providing homes with window and door products that meet or exceed the energy efficiency guidelines set by the NFRC.

The ENERGY STAR designation is important for window and door products. This qualification is given to only the most energy efficient products in today's market. This program is a voluntary partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and is designed to help consumers as well as the environment.

Low-E Glass

Low-emissivity (Low-E) glass has a thin coating that helps manage heat transfer. It keeps more heat inside during winter and reduces unwanted heat gain in summer.

Argon Gas Fills

Argon gas fills the space between window panes. It is less conductive than air, which helps improve the insulating performance of the window.

U-Factor

U-factor measures how well a window prevents heat from escaping. Generally, a lower U-factor means better insulating performance.

Solar Heat Gain Coefficient

Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) measures how much solar heat passes through the window. The right SHGC depends on your home's orientation and climate.

Double-Pane vs. Triple-Pane

Double-pane windows have two panes of glass with a spacer between them. Triple-pane windows add a third pane and gas fill, which can improve insulation.

NFRC Ratings

The National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) tests and labels windows for performance. NFRC labels help you compare U-factor, SHGC, and other ratings across products.
