Happy New Year! Our Maryland weather seems to give us the coldest temperatures in January and February and the cold is certainly here. This is the time of year where folks notice the cold temperatures radiating from their windows and doors- and perhaps leaking air. New windows and doors with insulated glass and frames can absolutely improve the efficiency of your home, but if you are not ready to replace the old windows and doors you can help your furnace out by inspecting seals and weatherstripping on the older units in your home.
The Department of Energy (energy.gov) has a “DIY Savings Project” series available on their website with step-by-step instructions to improve the efficiency of your old windows and doors by adding or replacing the weatherstripping. You can find instructions Here to complete the weatherstripping project.
Hope it helps! Let us know of any tips you have for winterizing your home.
