4 Tips for Fixing Drafty Windows
Don’t let a drafty window drag you down — during the cold winter months a leaky window is a sure way to throw money away, letting the warm air out and the cold air in; not to mention make your home feel chilly and uninviting…
Once you have identified where the leak is, we have the fix.
1. Most effective — the clear and permanent solution to this issue is to replace your old windows with new energy-efficient replacement windows. There are many styles, materials and options for new windows depending on your preferences. Vinyl windows can offer a cost-effective, low-maintenance option.
2. Temporary purchase — A second, but temporary option is to purchase interior storm windows. These will slide right into the frame of an existing window and act as a second barrier keeping the heat in until you can replace old windows.
3. Home improvement fix-it — Most home improvement stores will carry caulking which can be applied in three places: around the trim, at the joints of the trim, and between the trim and frame.
4. Easy DIY — draft snakes can be purchased or created from virtually any material. These are used to block any drafty air coming around window sills or under doors.
