EPA LEAD PAINT RULING GOES INTO EFFECT April 22, 2010

After much uncertainty, The EPA Lead Safe Renovation Repair & Painting law is now in effect.  Starting April 22, 2010 any home that is built before 1978 must be tested for lead paint by anyone who is replacing windows.  If lead paint is found, lead safe practices must be used by the contractor or they face a hefty fine.  The opt-out clause that could be used if there were no children or pregnant women residing at the house is no longer available after July 6, 2010.

What does this mean for our customers?  If you own a home built before 1978 and we find lead on the windows or openings, the cost of replacing your windows will unfortunately be more expensive.  The requirements necessary to practice lead-safe installations are costly.  While we understand the need to be cautious during remodeling where children are involved, we feel this is very unfair and punishes homeowners with older houses.  Hopefully no lead will be found when we test your pre-1978 residence.  But if we find lead, we must follow the guidelines set up by the EPA to install your windows.  We are exhausting every avenue to find the most reasonable and cost effective way to do this and will pass any savings onto our customers.

Be careful of contractors that are not certified  by the EPA for lead-safe practices.  If you are unsure about lead in your home and thinking of getting new windows, please call us.    We will be happy to give you a free estimate and can test for lead in your home.

NOW is the time to call us!

Well the home shows this year were great and we are busy with appointments and installations.  This time of year is our busiest especially with decks and sunrooms.  Everyone wants them in now to enjoy for the warm weather seasons to come.  Luckily the rain has not been a problem these past few weeks, so we are caught up and ahead of schedule.

If you are looking for a new sunroom or deck, give us a call now to schedule a free estimate!  This is also the best time to replace your windows and doors while the weather is not too hot or cold.  New windows will save on those air conditioning bills as well as heating bills.  So, give us a call and take a look at the variety of window and door options we offer.  All of our products qualify for the tax credit which ends this year.

Howard County Home Show Repeats in April!

We are happy to tell you we will be showing again at the Howard County Fairgrounds Home and Garden show on April 9-11th.  This is actually a redo of the show we did in February that landed on the weekend of one of our monster snow storms.  The attendance was down then, so they decided to repeat the show in April.  We hope to see alot of you there.  Look for us in our booth #302, in the third row!  We will be offereing special show discounts to get your home ready for the upcoming warm seasons.

EPA & Lead Based Paint Regulations for Window & Door Contractors

IS YOUR CONTRACTOR CERTIFIED???  Important regulations that affect ALL remodelers and something you should know about!  Effective on April 22, 2010 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is requiring all remodelers that conduct Lead-based paint activities and/or renovations to become certified.  This includes window and door contractors.  Classes and training is required for any contractor that will or has potential to disturb lead based paint in pre-1978 housing.  This also includes child-occupied facitlities (where children are under 6 years old) and including pregnant women who are present on a regular basis in the home.

What does this mean for YOU?  Make sure any contractor you hire to replace your windows & doors are certified.  Our installers and Tom have all taken the required courses and can answer any questions you may have.

Home Show in Annapolis this weekend!

Hopefully the snow this week will not hamper anyone wanting to attend the home show this weekend at the Annapolis Armory.  Now is the time to start thinking about improvements you want to make to your home in the spring. The tax credit ends in 2010 so there is no better time than this year for new windows, doors, siding, a new deck or sunroom and take advantage of up to 30% back from Uncle Sam.  We will also be offering deep discounts for anyone who sets an appointmtment at the show for a free estimate.  Come and get out of the house this weekend and visit us!   Show times are Saturday Feb 27: 10am – 7 pm and Sunday Feb 28: 11 am – 5 pm.  Hope to see you there!
